How Noise Pollution Effects Human Health?
What Exactly Is Noise Pollution?
Unwanted or excessive noise can have a negative impact on the environment, wildlife, and human health. The majority of industrial facilities and some other workplaces regularly produce noise pollution, but it is also a byproduct of train, airline, and road traffic as well as of construction work done outside.
How does noise pollution affect human health?
Every day, millions of individuals are impacted by noise pollution. It most frequently results in noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL).
Stress, high blood pressure, heart disease, and sleep difficulties can all be brought on by exposure to loud noise. These health problems can affect children in particular, but people of all ages can suffer from them.
Wildlife is also impacted by noise pollution. For a variety of reasons, a vast range of creatures, including insects, frogs, birds, and bats, rely on sound.
Noise pollution can make it difficult for an animal to find a mate, communicate, navigate, find food, or evade predators. For weaker creatures, this might potentially pose an existential threat.
Many of the world’s oceans are contaminated with chaotic noises from ships, seismic experiments, and oil drilling, which pose a major threat to marine wildlife, especially those that rely on echolocation, like some whales and dolphins.
How Can We Reduce Noise Pollution?
- Disconnect appliances at home and in the office: When not in use, we can turn off office and home appliances like the TV, video games, computers, and others that put unnecessary strain on our ears. When we turn them off, we also save electricity.
- When using noisy machines, close the door: To prevent repeated exposure to loud noises, we can close the door after turning on the dishwasher or washing machine in the room where it is stored or turn them on before we leave the house.
- Apply earplugs: Earmuffs or earplugs can reduce loud noises to a tolerable level. Our ear canals can accommodate little inserts called earplugs. Additionally, earmuffs form an airtight seal over the entire outer ear to protect ears from loud noises.
Reduce the volume: When using headphones or speakers, we can listen to music, radios, and television programs at a reduced volume.
